'Find and Delete Spatially Duplicate Records in a Shapefile' will select the first record in a shapefile, search the shapefile for other points, lines, or polygons that are spatially identical to the first, and deletes those duplicate records. This script provides a way to clean a shapefile of unwanted duplicate items. Then the script selects the next record and repeats until it has finished with the shapefile. The deleted records are gone even if the attributes are different, so use caution and back your data up if necessary.
This tool was updated to run as an ArcToolbox tool on 4/27/2009. An error with the code that caused failure on the Make_Feature_Layer method is now repaired. It is no longer required to manipulate the Python code as in the earlier version.
