Last update Jan 24, 2010
9.3, 9.3.1 support, should work on most installations
9.0/9.1 support removed, keep the older version if you need it
works with win32com or arcgisscripting method of gp generation
Added long/short axis lengths and axis azimuth for minimum area bounding rectangle
Added X/Y lengths for extent rectangles
Produces convex hull, minimum area bounding rectangle, minimum area circle and extent polygons.
1 Bounding containers only make sense when projected data are used. Project your data first, projecting-on-the-fly is not supported.
2 Unzip the zip file into a folder (preferably a separate one within your preferred toolbox path). Add the BoundingContainer.tbx toolbox into ArcToolbox within ArcMap. There are a number of associated helper scripts that are required for the toolbox. Keep the toolbox and the scripts together.
The interface allows you to select either convex hull, minimum area rectangle, minimum area circle or extent rectangle. Selections are honored if a selection is made prior to running the tool. You can process individual features or all features as a group.
The effort here largely reflects a translation of Avenue scripts written by William Huber (Quantitative Decisions) that have been available for ArcView 3.x users for some time. Errors are mine...comments appreciated.
