Summary
POPULATION PLUS - Forty plus state highway and tourist maps and four road atlases were examined to identify different conventions for symbolizing populations for towns and cities. The results were synthesized into a single expansive set of symbols. This makes up the "Population" part of the set. The "PLUS" part includes experimental symbols for showing population categories plus one or two additional variables. These were originally developed to show threat level and containment capability by community size (population).
